social business for urban development
I’m so pleased about this new bill – now I can point to a law when I say that though we are a private entity, we have given ourselves a remit to delay or prevent people accessing state services. That is precisely what a social enterprise is. People look at me like I’m mad, but social innovation is just an idea that’s ahead of the curve – what they laughed at 2 years ago is now law. As entrepreneurs we can choose to go down this path in a way that managers in big care agencies just cannot. With so much change in the sector, I really do think that agility is one of our main strengths.
“Under the Bill, local authorities will be required to provide or arrange services which can prevent or delay the need for more intensive care for all local people – including carers. SCIE’s work shows how, for example, improving housing conditions can reduce mental health problems, and good quality social care can significantly reduce the need for hospital admissions.”
